5 Things You Didn’t Know About Dating Mature Ladies
With today's media obsession with youth and appearance, you can be forgiven for thinking that only young people are looking for friends, that dating is a young man's game.
Let's be honest. Which of the following images do you think the media is most likely to use to accompany online dating articles?
Precisely.
Well, it's time to change that. We're all living decades longer than ever and staying healthier (and in some cases more agile) through the years of wisdom than ever before.
At the same time, more and more parents over the age of 55 are single and seeking, whether due to divorce or the tragic loss of the man or woman they loved over the years.
This means that there are more parents and baby boomers than ever looking for companies to fill the void of their exes.
Because no matter how old you are, one thing about human nature never changes: no one likes to be lonely.
However, older people seek friendship in very different ways than their younger counterparts. Once you enter the Year of Wisdom, your needs, wants, and expectations are very different from what you were looking for in your 20s.
Let's take a look at five things you (probably) didn't know about dating mature ladies;
1. Age is not that important
It seems contradictory to say that people with one attribute, their age, are not very interested in age when looking for a partner, but it is true. Young people have a tremendous age bias, so much so that age is one of the main filter criteria used to search for matches on online dating sites.
Just look at the image to the right from Match.com. Age is the second most important attribute that allows users to determine if they are interested in a potential match (after photos). This scenario is not only on Match.com, but also on E-harmony, Ourtime, Plenty of Fish, OK Cupid, and other dating sites.
2. Neither do looks
Another surprising aspect of dating for young people is the importance of appearance. The most popular online dating app for young people today is Tinder, which is proud to meet more than 450 million love seekers every day.
Take a quick look at the Tinder interface on the left. What is the most important aspect of a person when deciding if they can be a potential partner?
Here is the photo.
On Tinder (and almost every other online dating system on the market today), photography is very important. This reinforces the message that young people pursue every day: nothing is more important than how you look.
3. It’s not drinks, it’s dinner
One thing that surprised us was the important role dinner plays in the social (or less social) lives of most parents. Nobody likes the idea of cooking and staying for years.
And always being single when your married friends want to catch up over dinner can be a bit exhausting. More than any other activity, dinner is the time parents feel most isolated by being alone.
That's why, for most seniors, getting together for dinner is the most important first step in finding friendship.
4. Not everybody is looking for love & marriage
The main premise behind most dating services for young people is that their main goal is to find love and marriage. While this applies to some parents, it is far from universal.
Many parents are really looking for friendship and nothing more. Some are looking for someone to eat with, others are looking for someone to travel with, and others are looking for someone to share their favorite hobby with.
It is always good to have fascination, romance and flirtation. For many people at this stage, this will be enough. For others it is more. There are a plethora of dating services that go beyond the marriage-focused online dating services available today.
That goes a long way to explain the next point..

5. It’s not just about one companion
Many parents have many friendship needs. Of course, some are only focused on finding that life partner that will provide them with a loving relationship for decades to come.
But just like many, they seek out many friends to meet their various social needs.
